    Getting Started
Flying is fun and it's easier than you think. With aircraft on wheels, skis or floats, the sport flying destinations in Canada are limited only by the pilot's imagination.

Flying in Canada offers challenges and freedoms not found in the rest of the world. Piloting an aircraft is a satisfying hobby, a skill testing sport, a new source of friendships, a path to a career and a great way to travel. Canada has 60,000 pilots flying 30,000 aircraft from 2,000 certified airports. With private grass airports, aircraft on skis or floats, the destinations are limited only by the imagination.

    Be A Pilot
Piloting an aircraft offers Canadians unique challenges and freedoms. Aviation cuts across boundaries of race, affluence and sex. A single flight can be a mind flexing learning experience, a satisfying hobby, a skill testing sport, a new source of friendships, a path to a career and a great way to travel.  Flying an aircraft is available to most people in Canada. Becoming a pilot requires a certain level of fitness, some money, a measure of academic capability and a keen desire.  The physical standards for pilots are not much more demanding than those of driving a car. The minimum ages vary with the type of license but you are never too old to learn how to fly. The cost of flying lessons varies with the type of aircraft.  At the Borden Flying Club we offer one of the best priced flying options available in Simcoe County.  You just have to decide when.  The sooner the better. Student pilots don't have to be rocket scientists. The knowledge required covers navigation, weather, basic aircraft mechanics, theory of flight, air regulations and general airmanship. The material is diverse and interesting. Specialized textbooks and organized courses break it down into easy to learn small steps.  Aviation is a challenging, worthwhile hobby or career.

    Recreational Flying
The Borden Flying Club rents aircraft to licensed pilots by the hour for both short or extended flights. If aircraft ownership is your goal we can help there too.  We have a hangar which is available for rent to any club member.

    Student Pilots
Prospective pilots may start their training with instructors at any age. To fly solo, they need to obtain a Student Pilot Permit. Applicants must be at least 14 years old, provide proof of citizenship, meet the medical standard for the pilot license desired and demonstrate knowledge of air regulations.  A full listing of approved Medical Examiners is available at: http://www.tc.gc.ca/aviation

    International Recognition
Canada is a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization, the governing body of international pilot standards. Canadian standards for flight  training are among the best and most recognized in the world. Canadian licensed pilots flying Canadian registered aircraft are welcome in the airspace of most countries, including the U.S. Although there is no International Pilot License, Canadian pilot licenses are convertible to temporary permits and national licenses in many other countries.
