December 2018

President's Message

Merry Christmas!

Hopefully this doesn’t come too early for everyone, but I wanted to extend my best wishes and a Merry Christmas to all the members as we start the month of December. I want to thank all flying members for their patience as we work through the COM 2 installation, fuel repair, and annual. These larger projects unfortunately tend to drag on despite everyone’s best efforts. Please rest assured the Board working to have these projects completed as quickly as possible while not compromising quality and safety. The good news is the downtime has been during the worst of  November weather. Updates on the progress will be provided via email though and the calendar is being kept up to date with maintenance bookings.

The Garmin Com 2 has been installed and I have forwarded the user manual. The manual is available on the Borden Flying Club website, so all interested parties can reference (click here). The unit is very slick and has a warranty to boot. It also has useful functions like a timer (the Garmin GNS480 GPS/COM has this as well). This could be a good time to brush up on the functions of PDW equipment. I was watching a MzeroA video on youtube ( and it was taking about how most GA pilots are only using a small portion of our avionics. It’s an interesting watch.

In closing, for all flying members staying current over the winter, please ensure you give yourself some extra time to prepare PDW for the cold weather flying. Take care when walking and taxiing around the airport and keep an eye on the wingtips and snow banks!

Welcome to December, poor weather, an airplane thats been out of service, and many people just anxious to fly her. Well the good news is when we get her back she’s going to be in tiptop shape, with a brand new radio and fuel leak fixed. Also, the wiring for a future ADSB hookup was installed free of charge from Orrilia.

On another note, we have three new members waiting to be checked out, multiple re-current for 60 days, and about four annual reviews due.   Leath, Jim, and I will get everybody covered as soon as the weather cooperates and PDW’S annual is finished.

I hope everybody is well and look forward to seeing you soon.

PDW Maintenance

Unexpected Delays

As is often the case, the maintenance tasks we had planned for PDW have taken longer than anticipated. Harrison has already been updating you on progress, specifically for the fuel leak on the right tank. Although the delay is painful, I believe that the result will be worthwhile as we will have a leak free aircraft, something that everybody has been wanting to fix for a long time. We will continue to be in daily communication with Orillia Aviation and make sure everything is moving forward. We will follow this up we the annual inspection at Edenvale so we can be ready for holiday flying!

Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding.

Events and Announcements

Greetings All. This year, like last, we’ll be celebrating the season with the rest of the airport at the Xmas social being held Friday, Dec 14 from 6-9pm at the Hangar Bar and Grill. There will be lots of delicious bites, soft drinks, 2 alcoholic beverages, and festive entertainment, all complimentary.

On Saturday, December 15th at 10am we’ll have a BFC breakfast get together at the Hangar Bar and Grill. That will wrap up 2018 for us.

I need a number for the Friday social, so if those that haven’t already responded to me could take a minute and let me know if you’ll be coming and if your spouse will be accompanying you ( I hope everyone can make one or both of these get togethers.
