Toronto Centre Briefing

Thursday October 18th, 2007

The club's October meeting, Thursday October 18th at 7 p.m., will be a presentation by Toronto Area Control Center controller Cliff Durrwatcher.

Cliff will be delving into everything the VFR pilot needs to know to utilize the services offered by Toronto Centre. He will cover how to contact Centre, the services they offer and why you should be using them.

He will also be discussing the recent changes to Toronto Terminal airspace and how that will effect you.

The meeting will be held in the classroom at Edenvale. A tour of Toronto Centre is still in the planning stages for a weekend later this fall.

This meeting is open to all members and their guests. If you know anyone who has expressed an interest in the club please encourage them to come out. The club offers a social membership to anyone who is interested in joining the club as other than a flying member. This is perfect for the aviation enthusiast or aircraft owner.

A great turnout for the club's first meeting

The club's first meeting of the season was held on September 27th and saw two thirds of the membership turn out.

The GPS seminar was well received and drew plenty of discussion. When queried at the start of the presentation most people admitted that they were unfamiliar with all but the 'Direct To' function.

Introduced at this meeting was a 50/50 draw which will become a regular event at club meetings. The draw winner, Paul Richardson, took home $45. We think that it was rigged though as Paul is the guy who sold the tickets. We're watching you Paul.

Club Christmas Party

Friday December 7th

This year's Christmas dinner party will be on Friday Dec. 7th at Barkley Square Restaurant. The restaurant is located at Hwy #11 (5567 Yonge St) just north of Hwy #89.

This is always a fabulous and well attended event. Not only is it a chance to get together with all the members at a setting other than the club, it provides an opportunity to thank our spouses/partners for their support throughout the year.

As in previous year's you can order your tickets online or by contacting John Galloway.

Don't wait till the last minute. Avoid disappointment and order your tickets now!

Com #1 Inspected

PRM Dan Daigle flew CMQ down to Buttonville to have the Number 1 Com/Nav radio repaired. The inspection did not turn up any problems with the com unit itself; however, the nav turner was out by 7°.

The nav was adjusted and the connections on the back of the receiver were cleaned up and the entire unit placed back into the plane. The radio functioned properly on the return trip to Edenvale so the problem may have been a poor connection between the receiver and the mounting tray.

As for the nav tuner, those practice holding patterns should go a bit better now eh Dave?

CMQ Annual Inspection

due by November 19th

The annual inspection is due on CMQ not later than 19 November, 2007. An exact date when we will commence the inspection has not yet been set but will be sometime in mid November.

The plane is usually down for two to three weeks so plan accordingly.
